Abraham-Louis Breguet was born in 1747 in Switzerland. In 1775, he began selling watches in Île de la Cité, Paris, France, where he would spend the majority of his productive life. In time, his timepieces would be worn throughout Europe’s royal courts.
Breguet is considered one of the greatest contributors to the art of timekeeping, and one of the most highly decorated. He invented the first wrist watch in 1810, made for Caroline Murat the Queen of Naples. And among the long list of other contributions; the Tourbillon movement, patented in 1801, the first shock-protection for balance pivots, the Breguet balance spring, and perfecting the self-winding perpétuelle movement.
In 1999, Breguet was purchased by The Swatch Group.
One of the most popular Breguet line is the Type XX. After World War II, the French wanted to provide their pilots with reliable, accurate timing instruments, after using mostly German and British made products. First introduced in 1954, the XX Flyback Chronograph was created for French Air Force and Navy pilots, as per specifications issued by the French Ministry of Defense. The watch was the one of the first to offer a Flyback Chronograph movement.
Tourneau is pleased to present the following Breguet Type XX watches from its Certified Pre-Owned collection:
